Can Aloe Vera cure, help, treat or prevent Hair Loss?

The following information is for humans with Hair Loss

Introduction to Hair Loss

Hair Loss or baldness is known medically as alopecia. There are two common types:

Alopecia prematura where the hair slowly thins. Common causes are thought to be due to genetics, hormones or a poor diet.

Alopecia areata where the hair suddenly falls out, often in clumps. This is usually due to a trauma or stress.

Note hair loss can also be caused by other diseases such as eczema or psoriasis.

It is important to understand that hair can only grow back if the Papilla (or root) is still alive. It is possible to outwardly appear totally bald but to have hair roots with the potential to grow new hair.

Using Aloe Vera for Hair Loss

Important Note:
This text refers to Aloe Vera as defined on our page Good Quality Aloe Vera. We also strongly recommend you read the FAQ: How Much Aloe Vera Should I Drink?

If the hair root has dies Aloe Vera will not help and they only way to new hair would be via a transplant.

However if the root is alive (and sometimes this is simply a case of try it and see) the following has helped:

Drink Aloe Vera gel three times a day (about 30 ml, 30 minutes before each meal).

Use a shampoo where Aloe Vera is the first ingredient and where the product carries the IASC seal. Massage this onto the scalp daily and rinse off as with any shampoo but massage for longer.

The Aloe Vera that you drink will increase the amount of nutrients your body absorbs, as well as provide nutrients itself, which will help provide the building blocks the body needs to grow healthy hair from the inside.

Massaging the scalp longer than normal helps stimulate blood movement below the skin tissue and increase the flow of blood, and hence nutrients to the roots.

The use of the Aloe Vera shampoo itself provides antibacterial and antifungal properties which stop infections such as dandruff or excessive dry skin that would stop the hair growing.

How long will it take for Aloe Vera to work with Hair Loss?

The search for a cure to make hair grow back is worldwide and there are many "miracle cures" on the market. Aloe Vera is not one of them but some people have found it beneficial in stopping hair loss or promoting hair growth. It is simply a case of trying it for a few months with, unfortunately, no results guaranteed!
