Introduction to Sunburn

Over exposure to the sun causes the skin to burn with the result that it turns red, feels tight and can be itchy. It may also be painful to wear clothes over the affected area.

Using Aloe Vera for Sunburn

A good quality Aloe Vera based suntan lotion will block out 90% of the sun's burning rays while allowing 75% of the tanning rays through so this is better as a prevention.

However if the skin has sunburn gently massage Aloe Vera gel or juice on the affected skin and wait for it to be absorbed. Repeat regularly.

For severe sunburn put Aloe Vera Gel or juice in a spray bottle, set the nozzle to a mist setting and spray the skin regularly.

Where fresh aloe leaves are available they can be sliced in half lengthways and applied as a bandage, as is common practice in the carribean.

WHY? One of Aloe Vera's most well known properties is that of being anti-inflammatory so this helps to take away the pain. It also increases the rate at which the body's cell's divide and thus will help speed up the healing process, often without peeling.

How long will it take for Aloe Vera to work with Sunburn?

Relief from pain should be felt within the hour and most sunburn will be gone within a week.
