Introduction to Diverticulum
Diverticulitis is caused by Diverticulum. This is when the colon and intestinal membranes become inflamed and produce small sacs to the outside of the tract. These sacs are not emptied with normal digestion and cause gases to build up and inflammation to occur - this is Diverticulitis. On the outside this ailment is recognisable by constipation and cramping in the lower abdomen. The ailment can continue in a downward spiral becuase the strain caused by constipation inflames the sacs still further. Causes are usually stress, a lack of fibre and not drinking enough water
